Providence Journal | R.I. Attorney General Kilmartin Calls for Prompt Reporting of Campus Sexual Assaults

(10/02/2014) “The success of the prosecution is really based upon the timeliness of the reporting, the gathering of the evidence and the preserving of it,” Kilmartin, a retired Pawtucket police captain, said after the presentations. “[But] the last thing we want to do is have someone not report because they think there’s going to be automatic turnover to law enforcement.”

Kilmartin said he also plans to invite Christopher Mallios, a lawyer adviser at the Washington-based AEquitas, The Prosecutors’ Resource on Violence Against Women, to conduct a training in prosecuting sexual assaults. And he said he plans to meet with law enforcement officials and university representatives to explore how they can better work together.
